Every couple approaches their wedding planning slightly differently but we often get asked when catering decisions need to be made and when wedding menus should be chosen. The ten-point timeline below, acts as a good reference guide to what needs doing when, but don’t hesitate to contact us at any stage of your wedding planning to discuss your individual requirements.
Research Some Ideas
WHEN: As soon as you like following your engagement
Following your initial enquiry, where we discuss your individual requirements, we’ll give you limited access to our online Menu Selector so you can get excited about the type of wedding menus we offer. Call us now to request the access code.
Get Your Wedding Date in Our Diary
WHEN: Once you’ve booked your wedding venue
If you’re getting married at one of our exclusive venue partners, they will confirm your booking with us on your behalf, alternatively please confirm your booking with us directly to ensure that we are available to cater on your wedding date.
Gain Full Access to the Menu Selector
WHEN: Once you’ve booked Jenkinsons as your wedding caterer
We’ll email your unique login and password, which grants full access to the superb online Menu Selector where you can browse our Collections, mix and match wedding menus, play around with ideas, add extra courses. The possibilities are endless!
WHEN: Normally around seven to nine months prior to your wedding date
We love Tasting Days, it’s normally our first opportunity to meet you in person and it gives us the opportunity to really impress by serving a variety of dishes from popular classics to new and innovative dishes of our choice. You’ll find it so much easier to make decisions about what food you’d like to serve at your wedding once you’ve tried a few dishes and seen the quality of our presentation first-hand.
We’ll host the Tasting Day at your wedding venue, around seven to nine months prior to your wedding date. Your personal invitation will be emailed to you nearer the time and will confirm the date and give you the opportunity to advise us of any special dietary requirements you might have.
Not all of the wedding venues that we work with host Tasting Days please contact your wedding venue directly for more information. If your wedding venue does not hold a Tasting Day, or if you’ve booked Jenkinsons to be your wedding caterer directly, please contact us to discuss your tasting options.
WHEN: After your Tasting Day, around six months before your wedding date
We’ll write to you after the Tasting Day and invite you to arrange your Personal Consultation with us, where we’ll take the time to discover your unique requirements. We’ll ask you a variety of questions which will help us gain an understanding of your wedding day timings and what you want from the day as a whole, before we discuss your wedding catering needs in detail and make any recommendations.
At the meeting we’ll develop any ideas you may have about your wedding breakfast and bounce a few ideas around before deciding on your perfect wedding food.
WHEN: 21 days after your Private Consultation
At your Personal Consultation we’ll gain an understanding of your anticipated guest numbers and catering ‘price per head’ which will enable us to send you a formal quote confirming that a 50% deposit for the anticipated final amount is due.
If you subsequently change your wedding menu or guest numbers, your outstanding balance is amended accordingly. Please note that we cannot accept any changes after 21 days prior to your wedding date.

Our bank details and your unique reference number will be included in the letter we send out to you.
WHEN: 1 month before your wedding date
As your wedding date approaches it’s always a good idea to sit down and review your wedding catering choices in detail and advise us of any required changes or additions.
It’s likely that you chose your wedding breakfast menu some time ago, since then you may have had some new ideas or decided to treat your guests to canapés during the drinks reception; maybe you’d like to add a surprise sorbet course… just let us know.
The Final Balance is Due
WHEN: 21 days prior to your wedding date
We ask that you confirm final guest numbers and make any last-minute tweaks to your Wedding Breakfast Menu before settling the outstanding catering balance.

Seating Plans Please
WHEN: 7 days prior to your wedding
It’s really helpful if you send us a copy of your seating plan. Please take the time to mark out where any guests with special dietary requirements are sat, that way we can ensure their special meal is served straight to them. It’s also helpful if we know where any children having kid’s meals are sat and where any babies who do not require any food, are positioned.
If you’re supplying your own drinks (which is permitted at some of our partner wedding venues), please confirm what drinks you are supplying and in what quantities so that we can ensure we supply all the appropriate glassware.
When: Your Wedding Day
Your dedicated and experienced Catering Manager will be on-site throughout your big day to manage every aspect of your wedding catering service. This skilled and enthusiastic individual is on-hand to help ensure your day runs smoothly.
