Venues for Wedding Receptions

We are very lucky to work with some of the UK’s most fabulous wedding venues for wedding receptions and through them we get to work with some amazing couples who get super excited about their forthcoming wedding!

What is a Wedding Reception?

Wedding terminology can be confusing at the best of times and we do appreciate that for most of our couples it is the first time they’ve ever planned a wedding so some of the phrases and terms used sometimes need a little clarification.

The term ‘wedding reception’ generally refers to the part of your wedding day immediately after your actual wedding ceremony, right through to your ‘evening reception’.  After your ceremony you’ll greet and mingle with your guests before working with your chosen photographer to get those all-important wedding photographs. At Jenkinsons we’re on hand throughout your wedding planning to offer advice on timings and discuss whether it would be appropriate to offer your guests some canapés during this part of the day.

The Ashes

Your Wedding Breakfast

As a general rule you’ll invite your guests to take their seats for your Wedding Breakfast meal following the photographs and again, our experienced catering managers will discuss your individual requirements in detail to ensure that you get the wedding breakfast you want.  Many of our venue partners encourage you to design your own menu and we’ll be on hand to offer advice and give you some great ideas.

Wedding Food Ideas 2015

Here at Jenkinsons we’re constantly challenging our team of talented chefs to come up with new and exciting wedding food ideas.

We research the latest trends in wedding catering and regularly meet with our key suppliers to find out which new ingredients are set to become the next big thing!

In fashion ideas filter down from the grand couture houses; it’s much the same for wedding food, ideas filter down from the top restaurants and become accessible to us mere mortals!

Micro Leaves for example, soon became popular in wedding food after making their debut at the top London restaurants. They’re tiny vegetable seedlings picked at around 21 days. The intense and varied flavour of these vibrant green leaves combined with their attractiveness, makes them an elegant alternative to standard salad leaves.

Interactive Menu Selector – Packed with Wedding Food Ideas

We’re getting ready to launch our new interactive Menu Selector, designed to be a source of inspiration for our Brides and Grooms.

The Menu Selector allows you the freedom to browse through our current range of enticing and delicious dishes; you can experiment with different combinations of dishes and courses, reviewing the total price per head for every new combination you create.

We appreciate that you might like to tweak the dishes you’ve found using the Menu Selector; you may prefer to design a completely bespoke menu and that’s fine too but we hope you’ll get loads of fantastic wedding food ideas by using this amazing new tool.

In the meantime, here are a couple of wedding food ideas for 2015 to consider.

Relaxed Wedding Food Ideas 2015

Relaxed wedding food which showcases high-quality, simple ingredients, is definitely a bit hit with our couples getting married in 2015. So much so, we’ve already written an article all about it!

Click to discover some recent Relaxed Wedding Food Ideas.

Exquisite Wedding Food Ideas 2015

Some of our couples have a definite eye for detail which extends to every aspect of their wedding including the wedding food.

We’ve launched a new range of canapés for 2015 featuring rich and decadent flavour combinations and these are proving to be very popular with couples looking to wow their guests with something a little different.

Likewise, our Strawberry and Champagne Sorbet Intermezzo is set to delight wedding guests this summer. A delicate and ever so slightly effervescent champagne sorbet, served in a shot glass with fresh strawberries between the start and main course. Guests love it!

Jenkinsons Starter

Our website is packed with wedding food ideas and we’ll let you know as soon as the new menu Selector is available. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to get in touch with one of our Wedding Co-ordinators to discuss and wedding food ideas you might have.

A Word About Jenkinsons

About Jenkinsons - A Word From Ali-and-Rudi

It really is awesome when we receive a ‘thank you’ from one of our happy couples. I can’t tell you how important your day is to us; to know that we helped your wedding dreams come true makes us glow with pride!

Ali and Rudi were such a joy to work with, I just had to share their kind words about Jenkinsons and some amazing pictures of their stunning wedding at The Ashes.

We would both like to thank you for providing fantastic food throughout the day at our wedding at The Ashes on 30th May and also for helping us plan and prepare prior to that. We were inundated with praise from family and friends regarding the service and quality of food that Jenkinsons provided, with many saying they had never had anything so good at a wedding. The help you provided with things such as arranging the wedding cheese cake was a great help and we honestly did not have to worry about a thing.

– Rudi & Ali Muscovitch

Rudi and Ali opted to really spoil their guests with some of our delightful Stylish Bites – gorgeous canapés served throughout the drinks reception by our fabulous waiting-on staff. These delectable little morsels are designed to keep guests hunger at bay allowing them to fully enjoy the drinks reception, without ruining their appetite for the wedding breakfast.

Baked Sticky Honey & Mustard Seed Sausages

Mini Staffordshire Oatcake Pinwheels

Spicy Vegetable Samosas

Wedding Breakfast Menu

Ali & Rudi’s Wedding Breakfast Menu was equally fantastic:

Pear, Feta & Butternut Squash Tart

Main Course

4 Bone Rack of Lamb with a Minced Lamb Parcel, served with Seasonal Vegetables, Minted New Potatoes and a Red Wine Jus – Simply Sensational!

Their vegetarian guests were treated to our Head Chef’s famous Three Bean Casserole with Creamy Mustard Mash Potato – Sublime

Trio of Fine Desserts

When Ali & Rudi couldn’t pick their favourite dessert, they decided to treat their guests to a miniature version of their three favourites!

Toffee & Banana Eton Mess

Salted Caramel Tart with Toffee Sauce

Rhubarb, Apple and Ginger Tart with Pistachio Crumble Topping

A Final Treat

Rudi & Ali indulged their love of cheese and provided a wonderful Wedding Cheese Cake for guests to enjoy throughout the evening reception. We were more than happy to assemble the cheese tower for them and decorate it with fresh fruit; our chef then took charge of carefully cutting the cheese later on in the evening for the guests to enjoy.

Our thanks go out to the fabulous Ali & Rudi and to their wedding photographer Steve Bridgwood for sharing some of the amazing pictures of their incredible wedding day at The Ashes.

Traditional Wedding Breakfast with a Twist

Adventures in Dining

Planning your own wedding is a fantastic experience; you get to go shopping for some seriously fun stuff, wedding dresses and favours, decorations and wedding stationary, jewellery and wedding cake.  You can use it as an excuse to have wine tasting evenings at home or ‘research’ trips to Harrods and Selfridges just to see how the other half do it!

Seating Plan Nightmares

The planning, shopping, chatting and bouncing ideas around is all fabulous fun, the seating plan . . .  not so much!  No doubt you’ll already have endured a bit of an internal struggle deciding who to invite to your wedding and now you’ve got to figure out whom to sit by whom.

It may well be that rather than seat everyone on a table with people they already know, you’d like to mix things up a bit.  You’ll have family, old friends, university friends, work friends, their partners who you may not have even met. It can be great to use the wedding breakfast as a way to get all those different people talking to each other and enjoying fascinating dinner conversation.

Host a Roast

One of the best ways to help stimulate conversation between your wedding guests is to provide a Traditional Wedding Breakfast with a twist . . . . we sometimes call it the ‘Host a Roast’.  This is essentially a beautifully cooked Traditional Roast Dinner complete with Yorkshire Puddings, Roast Potatoes, Steamed Vegetables and Gravy but instead of the chefs carving the meat in the kitchens, the whole roast joint is brought to the table and ceremonially placed in front of a nominated ‘carver’.

By far the best way to do this is without giving the guests any warning.  The Bride and Groom will secretly nominate one carver per table who is then ceremoniously presented with a whole roast to carve for the table.

Food Theatre

Although we’ll happily provide Chef’s Hats and Aprons for the carvers to pop on, the best results are always when the happy couple have provided their own aprons which are inevitably incredibly cheeky and comical or beautifully personalised with the wedding date and Bride & Groom’s names.

Wrap your aprons up and the Event Manager at your chosen venue will be more than happy to ‘hide’ it under the carver’s chair (normally a bit of masking tape does the trick!)

Then as starters are being cleared away the Groom will normally tap his wine glass with a fork to get everyone’s attention and announce that in order to properly prepare for the main course guests should check underneath their chairs for a surprise package. The Groom will normally explain that those lucky enough to have found a package should pop the contents on immediately!

I can assure all, this little bit of food theatre preceding the main course is a fabulous ice breaker on the tables.  It really gets everyone involved, laughing and communicating, especially when they see the aprons!

Then of course the Roasts come out, normally to uproarious applause by this time and the banter continues throughout the carving with clamours for ‘more’ meat and plenty of laughter.

Pick carvers who’ll love the attention, sit back and enjoy watching all your guests come alive with laughter and engage in the whole event, it really does work incredibly well.

Huge thanks to the awesome Jess Petrie Photography for the images taken at The Ashes

Food to Make You Feel Great

At the heart of everything we do, is the desire to serve delicious food on your wedding day, food you’ll love to eat. We want you and your guests to relax and enjoy every morsel.

We’re committed to using local produce wherever possible and sourcing the freshest seasonal ingredients to make your wedding menu the best it can possibly be but that doesn’t mean it has to be posh!

If you love simple, honest, delicious food, then that’s what we’ll serve.

It’s your wedding day, we’ll help you to design a menu of relaxed wedding food that’s true to you and works in harmony with your wedding theme. Your wedding menu should complement the vibe of your day not jar against it.

If you’re planning a gorgeous, relaxed, rustic barn wedding and want a charmingly rustic menu too, than let’s do it!

We’ll work with you to develop a menu that you’ll love. Come to us with your ideas and we’ll add some suggestions and offer our advice on the best way to achieve the sort of dining experience you’re after.

We’ll encourage you to consider each course individually and think about how it will be presented, how we can maximise the flavours, where we can add a touch of creativity and colour.

Don’t be shy about coming forward with your ideas, we’ll do our very best to make it happen. We can’t promise we’ll be able to do everything you ask for, some dishes just can’t be prepared on the scale required, but we’ll suggest alternatives and get creative for you!

Here’s a few of the wonderfully quirky, rustic, home-kitchen relaxed wedding food we’ve served at weddings over the last year.

Pie & Peas – An individual shortcrust pasty pie served with lashings of gravy, fluffy mashed potatoes and old fashioned mushy peas.

Bangers & Mash – Premium butcher’s sausages, fluffy mash and caramelised onion gravy.

Alice in Wonderland themed Afternoon Tea – Deliciously dainty sandwiches and a selection of sensational savoury pastries served on three tier china cake stands. Followed by an extravaganza of baked delights; mini Victoria sponges, carrot cake, macaroons, lemon drizzle cake.

Hot & Spicy – Caribbean Jerk Chicken, Sticky Pork Ribs, Exotic Avocado Salad, Pineapple Rice, it was a hot, sweet and sticky explosion of flavour, simply gorgeous!

Sizzling BBQ – Prime Staffordshire Sirloin Steaks chargrilled on the BBQ and served with a selection of incredible accompaniments; minted potato salad, roast vegetable couscous, lemon & courgette salad, artisan breads.

Retro Classics – Chicken Kiev served with crisp green seasonal veg and buttery mash with Chocolate Ice Cream Sundaes or Banana Split for dessert, genius!

We look forward to hearing your relaxed wedding food ideas at your Personal Consultation.

Please feel free to Contact Us at any time if you’d like to bounce an idea or two off our experienced team.

Winter Wedding Food Ideas Jenkinsons

Sorry, I couldn’t resist the pun, given that it’s less than two weeks to Christmas.

This blog is actually about getting the most out of Jenkinsons Wedding Catering Service. As your wedding day approaches we’ll invite you to attend your Personal Consultation at our newly refurbished headquarters in Stafford.

You’ll meet with one of our experienced wedding co-ordinators and together you’ll make some decisions about the catering for your wedding.

Here are just a few of the things we’ll discuss at your Personal Consultation.

Would you like to serve canapés during your drinks reception?

If your guests have had an early start they are likely to be pretty peckish during your drinks reception. Our delightfully moreish canapés
are a great way to keep their hunger at bay without ruining their appetite.

Are you thinking of doing speeches first?

If you think you’d like to have your speeches before the wedding breakfast then it’s a good idea to choose forgiving dishes that are not time critical; a salad starter will wait patiently for the best man to finish his speech but a perfectly risen soufflé may suffer if he gets a bit carried away!

Would you like to treat guests to an unexpected course?

If you’re looking to make your wedding breakfast memorable; something guests will rave about for months, then consider treating them to an unexpected course. From Amuse Bouche to a Hot Soup Shot, we have loads of tantalising ideas in the Wedding Menu section of our website.

What would you like to serve at your Wedding Breakfast?

Although our Wedding Co-ordinators can offer suggestions it’s almost impossible for them to pick out your perfect wedding breakfast menu from our extensive selection of tried and tested exquisite dishes. It’s a bit like asking the DJ to pick your First Dance track.

Food is incredibly personal, that’s why we encourage you to design your own wedding menu, something that reflects your personalities and encapsulates your day. But don’t worry, we have loads of mouth-watering ideas to help you choose…

Great Ideas

Sometimes a spark of inspiration is all you need:

Our amazing new website is packed with ideas and suggestions.

Jenkinsons Facebook Page regularly shares other couples’ wedding menus.

The Latest News section of our website has some great tips and ideas.

Coming soon…you’ll be able to research ideas for your wedding menu using our fantastic new online Menu Selector which lets you browse through our Collections and mix and match dishes to come up with your favourite combinations. The Menu Selector is a great way to get inspired and offers you the flexibility to create your own mouth-watering menu.

Winter Wedding Food Ideas

Winter wedding food ideas Jenkinsons Caterers

Our talented chefs and wedding co-ordinators share some of their winter wedding food ideas.

Thaw Your Guests Out!

On your wedding day there is a good chance that you’d like your wedding guests to spend a few moments outside after the ceremony, posing for photographs and waiting to throw confetti. They’re much more likely to enter into the spirit of this when armed with a warming glass of Mulled Wine or Winter Pimms. Nothing is more welcome on a crisp, cold day, than a steaming glass of something hot and alcoholic to thaw you out.

Reviving Starters

One of our top winter wedding food ideas is to serve guests a hot starter once they’re seated for the wedding breakfast. We offer a fantastically large range of amazing soups, everything from classic French Onion to a sublimely creamy, Leek & Potato finished off with crisped Pancetta.

Fabulous alternatives to soup include a miniature bowl of Stew with Dumplings or a fiery Chorizo and Chilli Pepper Gnocchi, both sublime and sure to warm the cockles.

Heart-warming Mains

If you’re getting married in December why not treat guests to a traditional Turkey Roast Dinner, it may be clichéd but everyone loves it! Slices of moist locally sourced turkey served with cranberry sauce, bread sauce, chipolata sausages wrapped in sweet smoky bacon, lashings of roast potatoes, steamed vegetables (sprouts optional!)…. Heaven!

Comforting Puddings

We’re definitely not short of sensational winter wedding food ideas for pudding. Some of our favourites include Apple Pie and Custard, Sticky Toffee Pudding, Gooey Hot Chocolate Fudge Cake and of course Christmas Pudding!

Winter Wedding Food Ideas with a Difference

If you’d like guests to be talking about your sensational wedding breakfast long after the wedding we’ve got a few winter wedding food ideas with a difference:

Wow guests with an Amuse Bouche – One bite to awaken the senses.

Introduce an Unexpected Course – Delight guests with a hot soup ‘Shot’ in-between the starter and main course.

Festive Fun – How about serving some Christmas Spiced Gingerbread men with the tea and coffee.

Autumn Wedding Ideas

Autumn Wedding Ideas - Jenkinsons Caterers

Autumn brides can embrace the warm hues of the sensational seasonal palette; burnished gold and deep reds, amber and the honeyed tones of changing leaves.

Our chef’s are inspired by this season’s bounty when thinking of autumn wedding ideas, it’s time to make the most of the garden’s last sweet courgettes and discover the hidden ones which have somehow become marrows; celeriac and squash, celery and pears feature in delicious seasonal dishes and English apples ripen to perfection.

At some time or another we have grown over 2000 varieties of apples in this country, the supermarkets have decided that we all eat Golden Delicious and imported sweet varieties but visit any farmer’s market or traditional fruit and veg shop this season and you’ll discover gnarled and calloused apples, russet skinned apples and some which charm with their name alone, the Christmas Pearmain and the honey scented Cornish Gilliflower.

An Apple & Blackberry Pie is an English classic and rightly so, crisp and pale gold pastry encasing soft, sweet and utterly divine, English autumn fruit.

Apples need not be consigned merely to the dessert course though, when thinking of your autumn wedding ideas why not spice things up a bit with a cheeky starter of finest Black Pudding With Sweet Baked Apple served with a mustard sauce.

Pork and Apple is another classic combination, a roast joint of pork with burnished crunchy crackling and apple sauce is sure to delight and is the perfect choice for a ‘Host-a-Roast’ at your wedding as is Rolled Pork Belly stuffed with Sausage and Apples and served with Cider gravy.

I’m confident that you’ll have no problems coming up with some fantastic autumn wedding ideas but if you’re struggling just give us a call.  We’re here to help and bounce ideas off at any time.
