We are looking to expand our dedicated West Mill Catering Team and have a number of positions available.

Derbyshire Location

The West Mill, Darley Abbey Mills, Darley Abbey, Derbyshire, DE22 1DZ

Poised on the banks of the River Derwent in Derbyshire, The West Mill Wedding Venue is a historic Grade 1 Listed former mill. The separate function rooms of the wedding venue are spread over four floors with staircase access.

Recruitment Evening

Book your Place at our forthcoming Recruitment Evening to be held at The West Mill

Most of the roles are part-time and feature weekend work. Experience is not essential as training will be provided.

We are looking for staff with the right attitude; we know that food prepared and served with a smile, always tastes better than a dish served with indifference.

There are a number of roles available:

Front of House Staff – Waiters, Waitresses & Bar Staff

You’ll need a big smile and a spring in your step. Duties include setting tables, serving guests, clearing tables, collecting glassware, cleaning up.

Kitchen Hands

If you’d like a job where you can learn about food preparation in a professional kitchen and want to be involved in preparing food to a very high standard for weddings and events, then come along.

Wash-Up Staff

We’re looking for reliable staff to perform this vital role in the smooth running of our successful catering company.

Drivers 

We’re looking for pleasant and hardworking individuals to drive our equipment trucks and help with the logistics of moving all the equipment we use when catering at a wedding at The West Mill.

 

Certain shifts can finish late, so having your own car is useful.

It’s crazy how much we love catering for weddings at Pendrell Hall and when the gorgeous Rachel and Andrew got married there earlier this year it was sheer perfection!

Canapes to die for!

Following a mesmerizing and emotional ceremony held at St. James’s Church in Audlem they kicked off the drinks reception at Pendrell Hall in style, opting to serve their hungry guests a couple of delicious canapes.

While the Bride and Groom were having some fun getting a few group shots taken with their loved ones, our chefs were busy cooking up a storm in the kitchen.

Stunning Starter

Their stunning wedding menu began with an enticing starter of Crunchy Filo Parcels filled with Melting Brie and Cranberry served with a Shredded Vegetable Salad and dressed with a tangy Orange and Balsamic Vinaigrette.

Crowd Pleasing Main Course

For main course guests were treated to a delicately flavoured dish of Best Chicken Breast stuffed with Apricot Mousseline wrapped in Pancetta with a Citrus and Tarragon Sauce. Fabulous!

Happily Ever Afters

One pudding simply wouldn’t do, Rachel and Andrew chose to serve guests with a miniature version of all three of these mouth-watering desserts – Banoffee Pie, White Chocolate and Raspberry Cheesecake and a Chocolate Sponge Cake with Orange Ganache

If you’re working a wedding theme such as ‘Alice in Wonderland’ or ‘The Great Gatsby’ then have a chat about whether you’d like your wedding breakfast to complement and add to the theme.

Do you want your wedding breakfast to be memorable?

Even a little touch, like adding an unexpected course such as an Amuse Bouche to tantalise people’s taste buds as they first sit down before the starter, can really make your wedding breakfast meal stand out.

Try not to get bogged down worrying about what each individual guest likes to eat.  Of course you want them to enjoy the meal but my mum is a Yorkshire lass and they have a great saying to keep in mind ‘you’ll never please alt folk alt time’ so make sure you please yourselves a little, it is your wedding day!

My final suggestion is to remind you that we eat with all our senses, think about how visually appetising your dishes are, their aroma and texture and try to ensure that all courses, from canapés through to dessert, complement one another.

What is a Wedding Reception?

Wedding terminology can be confusing at the best of times and we do appreciate that for most of our couples it is the first time they’ve ever planned a wedding so some of the phrases and terms used sometimes need a little clarification.

The term ‘wedding reception’ generally refers to the part of your wedding day immediately after your actual wedding ceremony, right through to your ‘evening reception’.  After your ceremony you’ll greet and mingle with your guests before working with your chosen photographer to get those all-important wedding photographs. At Jenkinsons we’re on hand throughout your wedding planning to offer advice on timings and discuss whether it would be appropriate to offer your guests some canapés during this part of the day.

As a general rule you’ll invite your guests to take their seats for your Wedding Breakfast meal following the photographs and again, our experienced catering managers will discuss your individual requirements in detail to ensure that you get the wedding breakfast you want.  Many of our venue partners encourage you to design your own menu and we’ll be on hand to offer advice and give you some great ideas.

The Wedding Experience Event is exclusively available to couples who have booked The Ashes and whose wedding date falls in the forthcoming months. The event offers a unique opportunity to fully appreciate the ambience and atmosphere of the venue full of people and dressed for a wedding.

You’ll get a real insight into how your wedding guests will experience The Ashes on your big day. It’s great for couples to be able to see the venue lit up for the evening and to immerse themselves in the experience.

Your Invitation

You’ll get your invitation to this special evening event by email, directly from The Ashes. The event takes place at The Ashes and you can expect to enjoy the company of around 80 to 100 other excited individuals at the event.

The Bride and Groom get two complimentary places and wherever possible you’ll be given the option to invite up to an additional four guests for a nominal fee which gets added to your final catering invoice.

A Warm Welcome

Upon arrival at The Ashes you’ll be welcomed by their wonderful Event Managers who will give you a Tasting Pack which includes details of the dishes we’ll be serving on the day, The Cellar wines selected to accompany the dishes and contact details for all the preferred suppliers attending

Rediscover The Ashes

Before you’re invited to take your seats in The East Barn for the tasting, you’ll have the opportunity to explore and rediscover the beauty of The Ashes Venue. Perhaps you’ll be inspired by the variety of decorative suggestions placed by The Topiary Tree Florist; I love the way they decorate the dining tables with a different centrepiece on each, it’s fantastic.

Pick Our Brains!

The Ashes Events Managers will be on hand to answer any questions you might have, as will our team of experienced Wedding Co-ordinators so it’s an excellent opportunity to pick our brains whilst you’re enjoying the ambience of The Ashes, a glass of bubbly and a canapé or two.

The Tasting

You can find out which table you’re seated at by consulting the Table Plan hung in the anteroom, just as your guests will on your wedding day. Once everyone is seated, the owner of The Ashes, Ben Reeves will say a few words to welcome everyone before we begin service.

Please appreciate that with around 100 guests to serve it is not possible for you to choose which specific dish you’d like to try. Our fabulous team of chefs select a range of dishes to inspire and delight you and your guests. We’ll cook three or four different dishes per course and serve at least one example of each dish to your table. You won’t know precisely which dish you’ll get but hopefully you’ve brought close friends or family who don’t mind sharing.

Our Wedding Co-ordinators will talk each table through the dishes as they are served and answer any questions you might have.

We’ll always prepare a vegetarian option at each course and any specific dietary requirements you may have will have been communicated to us in advance so that we can make any necessary substitutions.

We’re sure that you’ll have a great time at your Wedding Experience Event. It’s a fantastic opportunity to experience The Ashes full of excited people just as it will be on your wedding day; the warmth and ambience in this stunning venue is second to none.

It was an absolute pleasure to meet so many lovely couples at the recent Sandon Hall Taster Lunch held in August 2014. Couples considering Sandon Hall as their wedding venue were able to book tickets to experience a wedding breakfast style lunch at this stunning wedding venue.

Incredible Interiors

Before guests were seated for lunch they were encouraged to explore this magnificent country house wedding venue which has just undergone a substantial makeover. The lavish interior design is simple stunning and all the guests were delighted with the new look. Couples also enjoyed seeing the fabulous floral decorations supplied by Sandon Hall’s very talented florist Breige, whose contact details can be found on the venue’s website.

The Tasting Lunch

Our fabulous chefs prepared a variety of dishes designed to showcase both classic wedding breakfast options and some of their new and innovative dishes. We prepared around four different dishes per course and served at least one example of each dish to every table, whilst our wonderful Wedding Co-ordinators made their way around to every table to talk guests through the dishes and answer any questions.

If you’re thinking about a wedding marquee for your special day then there are a few things to consider:

What Type of Wedding Marquee?

Jenkinsons Caterers have had the privilege of catering in a number of wedding marquees during our 50 year history and we’ve seen quite a few different takes on the wedding marquee; everything from the classic white wedding marquee to relaxed rustic weddings hosted in magnificent Nordic tipis.

There are a huge range of wedding marquees available to hire in all shapes and sizes, think about the kind of wedding day you’d like and chose a marquee to fit.

The Practicalities

Unlike a wedding venue which comes kitted out with everything you might need on your big day, a wedding marquee is a truly blank canvas. You’ll need to give some thought to the practicalities; access to the site, electricity supply, mains water supply, lighting, parking, guest toilets etc.

We’ve had loads of experience in working alongside wedding marquee suppliers to ensure that they think about the catering requirements and practicalities when looking at your chosen site. Don’t hesitate to get us involved in the discussions as soon as you start planning your marquee wedding.

Dressing your Wedding Marquee

Lighting is perhaps the single most important element of dressing your wedding marquee. You want subtle, soft, flattering lighting. As guests start to enjoy their wedding breakfast with their eye before they’ve even tasted a bit it’s great if the lighting lets people see what they’re eating then dims to encourage some wild dancing later on.

Beyond lighting you’ll need to consider table centrepieces and whether a starlit roof on the wedding marquee is appealing. Don’t forget about the flooring too, a hard-standing dancefloor is often a very good idea.
